Viol

Our Viol packaging was developed to help florists who want to ensure a safe transfer of their flowers by reshaping the packaging that usually damages the top of the bouquet - and provides a temporal vase for customers who do not have a vase at hand, unlike the usual boxes that serve one purpose. The project was created together with Viktoriya Omelyanovych.

We were initially tasked to improve pain points within flower delivery services in Barcelona. Through our research and interviews, we identified two main problem areas: user interaction and ordering process on the deliveries’ websites and inadequate packaging. We chose to develop the latter and defined that the main issues were the packaging’s shape -which was unsuitable for the delivery of flower bouquets -, its visual appearance, how stiffer packaging complicated the process of assembly, and the fact that it is made for a single use.

The end product of our research was Viol; a new type of packaging that is not only a transfer vessel for flower bouquets and ensures a safe transfer during the delivery, but also an ephemeral vase that creates a beautiful display. The packaging has a minimal amount of components that are easy to assemble and adapt to the desired size. Once the wall and base pieces are connected, the florist simply places the bouquet inside, folds down the sides and snaps the handle in place. The size is adapted to fit with the scooter-mounted bags which most delivery courier services that the majority of florists in Barcelona utilize, and the handle is ideal for smaller shops which deliver by foot in the nearby area. Once delivered, one can simply rip off the handle piece, fold down the sides, snap them in place, and ultimately, the packaging becomes a visually pleasing, ephemeral vase - perfect for when you do not have an extra vase at hand!
