Klara

Coming from a Scandinavian country, light is very important to me. It is typical for Scandinavian homes to be filled with warm, layered light from multiple sources that can be turned on or off depending on the season and time of day. For this project, I wanted to make an ambient light that could light up the dark corners of a room and adapt to the user’s preferred amount of light.

I wanted to go for a more contemporary style and kept my Scandinavian influences in mind as well, especially regarding materials. With the concept of reflections and the idea of bringing attention not only to the effect they make on our walls but on the lamp itself, I lingered at the idea of having multiple, exchangeable screens. I then began experimenting with different patterns (see below) and developed Klara, a minimalistic side table lamp that lets the user exchange screens, play with the patterns they make by rotating them, and adapt the amount of light they want the lamp to emit.
